Jeanie is a third generation Scottish sculptor based in the Highlands and London. She graduated from Glasgow University with an MA in Art history.
“I want to tell stories through my work and materials. It is important that every part of the process has significance; my connection to the subject, the clay sourced locally from Lochinver, my tools hand carved from applewood. I endeavour to affect the viewer, to celebrate the unique beauty of an individual and in that way offer an unseen perspective. I feel this increasingly more valuable in a western world that consumes homogeny of appearance, culture and lifestyle.
Each creation, I feel, is a pilgrimage of connection; our relationship to nature, each other, ourselves. I like how a person or an animal or a thing can be foreign when first observed and gradually as I sculpt, we become more and more bound together. It s a journey of connection and never in the same way twice.”
